Horn’s Pulmonary Rehab Department Receives Donation

Horn Memorial Hospital’s (HMH) Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program makes a difference in the lives of many patients with chronic respiratory diseases.  The various education and training provided in this specialized department benefits patients by reducing symptoms, optimizing functional status, and increasing their ability to maintain daily activities.

As a long-time recipient of these services, Jim Lancaster knew all too well the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation.  Jim formed a special relationship with the nurses in the Pulmonary Department as well as many other hospital staff.  His positive attitude and friendly greetings will be remembered for many years to come.  In appreciation of the services provided by HMH Pulmonary Rehab, Jean Lancaster recently donated a specialized oximetry system in memory of her late husband, Jim.  This wireless transmitter measures the oxygen in the blood, transmits the patient’s heart rate, and remotely displays the information on a central telemetry station.

Jean Cipperley, RN, BSN, CDE, Health Promotions Director, comments, “For many of our patients, Pulmonary Rehab stabilizes their symptoms and allows them to increase their activity level.  Because our Pulmonary Rehab patients are often in our program for an extended period of time, we are able to form special relationships with them as we did with Jim.  It is often like caring for a member of our own family; which coincides with the overall kind of care Horn is known for.”

Jean Cipperley, Kathy Henrich, and Darnell Dennehey are the three specially trained nurses who provide HMH’s Pulmonary Rehab care.
